Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t see the answer to your question about the HCAIM Programme here? Get in touch with the HCAIM representative at the university you wish to apply to.

What is human-centred AI?

The HCAIM Consortium follows the definition of AI HLEG (European Commission’s High-level expert group on Artificial Intelligence), namely: The human-centric approach to AI strives to ensure that human values are central to how AI systems are developed, deployed, used and monitored, by ensuring respect for fundamental rights.

This definition puts human values and rights in a central place in the AI development lifecycle. The profound consideration and assessment of those aspects, including risks, is necessary to be taken into account at every stage of AI development.

Are There Any Prerequisites to Enroll in the Programme?

The Master’s Programme is open to students with a primary degree and solid background in technology. Some experience in programming and basic statistics is needed to undertake the programme. We welcome people interested in cutting-edge technology and passionate about ensuring that technology works for the good of humankind. Please also check the specific information on prerequisites provided by each University.

Why Should I Study Human-Centred AI?

Digitalisation has recently reached the point where the vast amount of constantly generated data can only be analysed and processed by algorithms whose operation is becoming less and less understood by its creators. (Think of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice of Goethe!) Similarly to other engineers – architects, civil engineers, mechanical and chemical engineers, etc., IT professionals need to become more aware of the natural and social environment in which the tools they create operate. Be among the first who take the initial steps in this direction by joining the HCAI Master’s programme.

Are There Any Options for Student Mobility?

To highlight the international character of the HCAIM  programme and to maximize the students’ learning, the 2022 students of all four universities will be invited to participate in the 5 days Intensive Programme in Utrecht, the Netherlands in January or February 2023. This week will allow our students to build their international network, meet SMEs from the field and work on their thesis with coaches from BME Budapest, TU Dublin, UNINA Naples and HU Utrecht. Students will receive an Erasmus+ grant for their stay in the Netherlands that week, which will make this a budget-neutral international learning event for the class of 2022.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

Check out the eligibility criteria for the university you are interested in applying to. Anyway, the Master’s program is suitable for students with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, AI development or similar background.

Is my Degree Recognized Across Europe?

Most definitely. In each of the four universities, you will receive a recognised master’s degree diploma upon completing the programme.
